Choosing an AI API for document analysis
Long documents make cost and accuracy trade-offs sharp. Every page you send is billed as input, and a model that misses a clause can be worse than no model at all.
Side-by-side pricing comparison
Active pay-as-you-go rates from our pricing catalog, sourced from each provider's official page. The catalog may lag new launches. Use the category filter to narrow the list.
Catalog rates are a single pricing snapshot, not a full tier schedule. This table does not select rates by prompt length; long prompts may cost more and change the ranking. Use the API cost calculator for supported Haiku 5.5 and xAI prompt tiers. Announced Google increases are not applied before their effective date.
Prices are per 1M tokens (standard pay-as-you-go). Always verify with your provider before budgeting.
Full comparison toolHow to evaluate a model on long documents
Test retrieval accuracy and input cost together, because they pull against each other.
- 01Plant-and-find accuracy
Insert a few known facts at different depths of a real document and ask for them with citations. Record hit rate at your actual document lengths.
- 02Full context vs chunking
Sending the whole document is simple but bills every page each time. Retrieval over chunks sends less. Price both for your query volume.
- 03Watch pricing thresholds
Some providers change rates once a prompt passes a size threshold, for example 100K or 200K tokens. Check where your documents fall before using a flat rate.
- 04Caching repeated documents
If many questions hit the same document, cached-input pricing can lower cost substantially. Check whether your model supports it in the table.
